Kosara Fernandez Manrique

Kosara Fernandez Manrique was born in Belgrade and began learning chess from her father at the age of 4. She actively started participating in tournaments at the age of 9 and won Belgrade’s championships in the age categories. With her sister, she repeatedly won the Belgrade and Yugoslav high school championships and she individually won Belgrade’s student championship.

She graduated with an economics degree in Belgrade and together with her sister Maria founded the “Stojanovic Sisters” chess club. The two designed and ran projects “Children in Chess” – working as chess coaches with hearing impaired children and children with learning disabilities in 2011, and “Chess in kindergarten”- working as chess coaches in Belgrade kindergartens with children aged 4 to 6.5 years from 2011. She worked as a journalist for the daily newspaper Sports Journal writing a chess column and as a host of the chess show “Chess+”.

After moving to Spain, she worked as a coach at a club in Tenerife and coached chess at several different elementary schools. Her students won first place in the team primary school championships for higher and lower grades. As an individual coach with multiple students, she wins medals at the Tenerife and Canary Islands championships.

She has had the title of the International arbiter since 2010 and has arbitered at many European championships for children and adults, European clubs CUP, the world championship for children, as well as many domestic and international tournaments.

Kosara is a National Instructor and teaches classes in Spanish and Serbian.
